Birthday muffins

It's become a Herndon family tradition to have doughnuts for breakfast on your birthday and it's one that we have continued with the girls. Well, the doughnuts and other baked goods in this city that you can purchase are all VERY dry. You find yourself throwing it away no matter how much sugar is on top. So I planned to make doughnuts for Samantha's breakfast. Unfortunately, I didn't realize we were too low on oil to accomplish this, so we had chocolate chip muffins instead. Thankfully she loved them and wasn't dissapointed at all.

Here is the first (of hopefully many) non princess birthday cake we've had in awhile. It's tricky coming up with a theme that both will be happy with, but I've learned the trick is to not ask--just do my best. Horses were a pretty safe bet and of course they loved it. This cake was made and decorated by their babysitters Joanna and Catherine (twins) who help in their mom's bakery business.
