We're Official!

Well, Brad and I are official Zambian drivers as of today.  We were originally told we would just have a "conversion" where we pay the fees and don't have to take a test since we had valid US drivers licenses.  When we returned today to get our pictures taken, we were told that had been changed and we'd have to pass an examination.  Of course this examination is to be taken in a 5 speed Toyota SUV with gear shift on the L.  We each took our first 15 minutes behind the wheel to practice before going to the test track.  The other unnatural thing is the turn signal is on the R side so each time I tried to signal a turn, the windshield wipers went crazy  :)

For the test here, they have an actual test track set up outside of town that has a couple hills which they make you stop at the top of and restart again.  This would have been impossible if I hadn't been tortured as a 16 year old and been given a 5 speed for my 16th Birthday  (Thanks mom and dad--you were right--you never know when you'll need to know how).  We both passed and will pick up our official licenses Monday.

With this under our belt, we were given a driver to ride with us for the rest of the day and make sure we were good.  At the end of the day we dropped him off and we were allowed to take the car for the weekend.  It is so nice not to have someone always waiting on you and feeling like you need to be in a rush.  After dropping him off, we stopped and picked up a couple of pizzas (it's Friday--you know you can't miss pizza and movie night--even in Zambia) and headed to the hotel where we had pizza, swimming and then a movie on Brad's computer.

That's about all for today.  We head to the house tomorrow to meet with the security company and hopefully get the washer and dryer hooked up (we're about out of clothes).  I hope you all are doing well.  We miss you all.

Love,
The Zookeeper
